2016 Chevrolet Impala Continues the Excellence
When you have to play in a sandbox with the Ford Taurus, Chrysler 300 and Toyota Avalon you can expect to have some sand thrown in your face, but the Chevrolet Impala certainly has the ability to throw some back as well. The Impala is one of the only sedans in this class that does not offer AWD but it does offer a bi-fuel engine, a wireless charging pad for multiple mobile devices, a roomy interior and the most powerful naturally aspirated V6 engine in the class. Take that Taurus, 300 and Avalon, the Impala just kicked a big pile of sand in your face.
Save the beach or sandbox bullying metaphor, the Impala is an excellent car to choose. With plenty of room for five passengers to enjoy the space this large sedan offers great style and a ton of leading safety and entertainment technologies to make this a car that you should drive. If you are in an area where you can fill up with compressed natural gas (CNG) the Impala will allow you to use that fuel for its performance, making it easier for you to drive green in a classy and stylish car.
For the 2016 model year the Impala gains the Apple CarPlay and adds the wireless charger. It also brings in some new colors, leather seating on the LT trim and the Impala Midnight Edition which has been added to the LTZ option package to offer a dramatic and exciting blackout effect to the car. One of the best features offered on the Impala is the MyLink Valet Mode. This is a small hidden vault that is accessible via a four-digit PIN code giving you a safe place to put your keys, wallet or your smartphone when you need to park the car while you take a jog or need to not have these items on your person during other activities.
It wouldn’t be a great car if it didn’t drive amazingly well and the Impala certainly does. Even though it’s a heavy car it has excellent acceleration as it can make the run to sixty mph in less than seven seconds. Add the fact that the smooth riding suspension and dynamic chassis make for a light and refined ride on the road you will surly feel you are in a high end luxury model and not one that has the Chevrolet bowtie on the front of the car.
You have two engine choices and three setups to select from. At the base model the 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine is adequate, giving you 196 horsepower and 186 lb.-ft. of torque while it’s attached to a six-speed automatic transmission which is used across all models. This powertrain will give you a fuel mileage of 22 city/31 hwy mpg.
The powerful engine mentioned is the 3.6-liter V6 which offers up 305 horsepower and 264 lb.-ft. of torque. This is certainly enough to leave those others in the dust and the fuel mileage hit is not much as it shows up at 19 city/29 hwy mpg. This engine is also able to be set up for the bi-fuel option which can carry enough CNG to go for 150 miles, after which you change to gasoline and receive a total single tank range of 500 miles; not bad for a large sedan. The bi-fuel set up offers 260 horsepower and 247 lb.-ft. of torque form the gasoline engine and 230 horsepower and 218 lb.-ft. of torque form the CNG power. The fuel mileage comes out at 17 city/25 hwy mpg for the gasoline portion and 16 city/24 hwy mpg for the CNG.
With the Impala you know you are going to get some great features to enjoy and the standard offering shows up with a power driver’s seat, cruise control, Bluetooth connectivity, a 60/40 split folding rear seat, a six-speaker audio system with both USB and auxiliary inputs and a 4.2-inch color display. Moving up the trims adds in the dual-zone climate control, an eight-inch color infotainment screen, Bluetooth audio streaming, a leather interior, ten airbags, and a traction control system, push button starting and heated front seats. This makes for a package of great features even at the base levels of the Impala trims.
The options that you can add bring this car up to a semi-luxury offering. These include the navigation system, a rearview camera, keyless entry, keyless starting, a heated steering wheel, a power tilt/telescoping steering wheel, heated and ventilated seats, a Bose surround sound audio system, the MyLink system, the 4G LTE Wi-Fi system, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring and lane departure alerts.
With all the awesome features you can have, the most powerful engine in the class and a great car that can really get you going in style it’s easy to see why some other models might be jealous of the Impala. Regardless of what the others think, this is a car you want to drive and have as your daily ride and family sedan so head to you Chevrolet dealer and test one out today.
