2016 Dodge Dart: A European-Styled American Compact Sedan
The title says it all; the Dart is a gorgeous compact sedan that answers every question in the class. With it style and fun to drive personality it rivals the Mazda 3 and Focus. The Dart also gives us a large menu of great features and setups to enjoy with ensure we have more options than the Elantra, Corolla and Sentra. There is even a near luxury trim level that will make it hard to pass up and why would you want to, the Dodge Dart is the compact sedan that will surprise you and excite you at the same time.
Starting with some power options, the Dart give you three engines to choose from so you can have the right car for your driving. The base engine is a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine on the SE model that comes in with 160 horsepower and 148 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine and all of them are attached to either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic for you to choose from. For this base engine the fuel mileage comes in at 25 city/36 hwy mpg for the manual and 24 city/34 hwy mpg for the automatic.
Next up is the 1.4-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine for the Aero model. This engine brings in 160 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque. Mated to the same transmissions this powertrain will bring in a fuel mileage of 28 city/41 hwy mpg for the manual and 28 city/40 hwy mpg on the automatic. At the top of the engine offerings is the 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder engine that is placed in the SXT, Limited and GT models. This engine brings you up to the 184 horsepower and 171 lb.-ft. of torque level. With this range of models this powertrain, using the same transmissions, comes in at a low of 22 city/31 hwy mpg on the automatic GT and a high of 23 city/35 hwy mpg for the Limited/SXT automatic.
On the inside this little car will certainly surprise you by offering a large than expected cabin for you to enjoy driving form. With a design that makes this not only a driver friendly car but one that anyone can enjoy the controls are laid out to make sure the car is engaged in the driving experience. Style is evident inside this car with a variety of shapes and curves on the dash that are different from what you are used to.
On the outside the Dart has been an amazing looking car to enjoy. Style has been part if this car from the beginning and the lines you find on this little beauty are sensual and alluring to say the least. The Dart even has active grill shutters which help enhance the fuel mileage and turn out to be a favorite feature among many drivers. Toss in the LED taillights and you will easily see why the Dart is a car that has been enjoyed for its looks and been labeled as one of the best looking in its class for a while.
Driving this car will feel a lot like you are driving a sports car. Even though the power doesn’t look like much from a statistical view, the engines are engaged and give instant power to make this car take off from a standstill. With that instant movement it’s a good thing the Dart has a solid chassis and highly engaged suspension to be one of the most enjoyable rides in its class. You can easily find yourself looking for some curves to ride and an open road to unleash what is underneath this car.
Not only is the Dart a great drive but it’s an extremely affordable car as well. Starting at a base price of $17,700 the Dart offers a great starting point for parents looking or a car for their student. Moving up the line the SXT comes in around $20,000 and the Aero will ask for $21,500 while the GT shows up around $23,000. At nearly $25,000 the Limited will give you some of the best features you could enjoy and the fully loaded model ends up around $27,000 making the entire lineup affordable and an amazing drive.
Speaking of features, the Dart SE starts off with only a few features to keep the price low and allow you to build the car you want. This model includes a tilt/telescoping steering wheel and airbags but makes air conditioning, power mirrors and power locks optional. Moving up the SXT offers these missing features as standard and comes equipped with the higher engine. Unless you can only afford the SE model you should move up to the SXT right away to add the creature comforts that make a huge difference when driving, especially air conditioning.
The options for the Dart are much more extensive. The SXT can offer a navigation system, satellite radio and a host of other offerings that are not found on the SE. The Aero will add the more efficient engine and the GT is sport enhanced model for you to enjoy with a sport suspension and ten-way power driver’s seat. The Limited brings in the luxury with Nappa leather and chrome accents. The Technology Group can be had on the Limited and GT to add adaptive HID headlights, rear parking assistance and blind spot monitoring to this already exceptional car.
The Dodge Dart does offer some new features for this new 2016 model year. The SXT trim adds a Sport Appearance package and the SE get the Rallye Appearance Group. The GT is enhanced with 18-inch Hyper Black wheels as a standard offering and this model adds the Blacktop Package. The Dart is a fast and energetic compact sedan that is great for the family or for a single person.
