2016 Hyundai Sonata: Another Fan Favorite
What do you want in a car? If the answer includes great fuel mileage, an engine that doesn’t mind accelerating from a stop, a comfortable and high tech interior and plenty of protection from the manufacturer with a great warranty then you are in luck. The Hyundai Sonata is and has been that car for you to choose and make the next great purchase for your driving pleasure. The Sonata has been a favorite for a long time because of all these features and by taking a page from the book of many competitors the Sonata offers you a wide variety of great choices to have the car you really want.
When I say there is variety, we can start by looking at the powertrain. This car offers you up to five engine setups to choose from to get the Sonata you want to fully enjoy. The base engine is a 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder offering that is found in the SE, Sport and Limited models. This engine will bring you 185 horsepower and 178 lb.-ft. of torque while attached to a six-speed automatic transmission that will make a fuel mileage of 25 city/37 hwy mpg possible.
Moving up to a turbo model for the Sport 2.0T the engine is a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine that gives you 245 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine is also attached to the six-speed automatic and gives a fuel mileage of 23 city/32 hwy mpg. The last non-hybrid powertrain is a 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-four cylinder engine that is placed in the Eco model. This gives you 177 horsepower and 195 lb.-ft. of torque while being mated to the seven –speed automatic transmission to bring in a fuel mileage of 28 city/38 hwy mpg.
Looking to the hybrid powertrains we find a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder plus and electric motor in the Hybrid. This will give a net horsepower of 193 along with 140 lb.-ft. of torque from the engine and 151 lb.-ft. of torque from the electric motor. The fuel mileage for this setup the fuel mileage comes in at 40 city/44 hwy mpg for the Hybrid and 39 city/43 hwy mpg for the Hybrid Limited. Using the same engine but adding a different electric motor we find the Plug-in Hybrid model that will give you a full 24 miles of electric only range. This powertrain returns 202 net horsepower and the same torque as the other hybrid setup. This combines for a 40 mpg using the engine and 93 MPGe for the electric motor.
Looking to the standard equipment some of the features to note include the new automatic headlights, a new seven-inch touch screen with USB and Bluetooth connectivity along with smartphone integration, a rearview camera, air conditioning, power windows with pinch protection, power locks, a driver’s side blind spot mirror, stability and traction control, cloth seats, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel and a 60/40 split folding rear seat. This certainly allows you to have a car that will handle your needs with ease and in true Hyundai fashion, gives you plenty of great features as standard fare.
When you review the optional features you find a lot to choose from. This list includes the Android Auto, a ten-speaker Infinity sound system, smart cruise control, stop/start capabilities, automatic high beams, ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof and a hands free trunk release. This list shows you just a few of the upgrades available for this car in order to make sure you can have the right features for your vehicle and the ability to enjoy the drive every day.
With all these features and choices of powertrain you might think the Sonata would be expensive, but this is one of the most reasonably priced midsized sedans on the market. The base price for the SE comes in at $22,600 which moves up to around $24,000 for the Sport and Eco models. The Limited will begin its existence at the $27,300 mark while the hybrid will be just under $27,000. We don’t have the pricing for the plug-in model just yet, but it will be announced very soon. Of course all of these prices can be increased by adding some of the great options, but as you can see this is an affordable car for the whole family to enjoy.
Speaking of the family, let’s look at where they will be spending most of their time; in the car. the interior is laid out in a no muss, no fuss way to give you a car that has a dynamic control center and great looks but nothing over the top of hard to live with. This is a car that will be easy to enjoy from every seat especially since they are all large enough for adults to fully appreciate and enjoy. You will find it easy to see yourself taking some great weekend adventures and vacations with the family in your new Sonata which allows everyone to enjoy all the great features.
From the outside the Sonata continues with some of the best looks in the class. Hyundai has found a way to be ahead of the curve with exterior design and continues to allow the Sonata to not only look great but also show off some style and elegance along the way. It’s easy to mistake this for a luxury car even though it certainly is not, you will find impressive lines and views from each and every angle of the car.
The most important part of any car is how it drives. It doesn’t matter what features are included if the car is difficult to drive you aren’t going to want to be in it very long at all. The Sonata is a breeze to drive and offers you a smooth, comfortable ride that enjoys the use of a great suspension and easy to enjoy steering system. You can drive with confidence when needed with the ability to accelerate quickly, but you can also enjoy a quiet Sunday drive in this beautiful sedan from Hyundai.
