2016 Porsche Macan: The Perfect SUV on the Pavement
Let’s face it, when you buy an SUV for the off road capabilities you still spend more time on the paved roads than you do on the trails. This makes it difficult to justify this purchase again when you know the ride is rougher on the pavement than it should be because of the off road features of the vehicle. If you want a smooth ride on the road and don’t expect to head off road at all, the right choice for a great luxury SUV that offers the sports car performance and a size you will enjoy is the Porsche Macan.
The Porsche Macan is made to go up against the BMW X3 and Audi SQ5 to be a sport SUV that handles the fun on the pavement while giving you more space than you would find in the 911 or Panamera. With this SUV you can drive for fun and pleasure while having the space for the family in a vehicle made by Porsche. For 2016 the Macan adds new tri-zone automatic climate controls and bring in the new GTS model to be purchased during this upcoming calendar year even though it’s a 2017 model; consider it an early gift for the next year.
When you select this model for your driving excitement you will have a great menu of features to be part of the vehicle. This includes 19-inch aluminum wheels, dual twin tailpipes, bi-xenon headlights, a multifunction steering wheel with paddle shifters, tri-zone climate control, an automatic rear hatch, eight-way power adjustable seats with Alcantara seat centers and piano black trim. The Turbo offers 18-way adjustable leather sport seats, a 14-speaker Bose audio system, an Alcantara roof liner, brushed aluminum interior trim, and the Porsche Active Suspension Management system.
When you look for the Macan to be the vehicle for hauling around your whole family you will want to look to the options list for more features including the 16-speaker Burmester High-End Surround Sound audio system, a panoramic roof, adaptive cruise control, the 360-degree Surround View camera system, blind spot monitoring, lane keeping assistance, cross-drilled ceramic composite brakes, 21-inch wheels, the Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus system for cornering and the integrated stopwatch and g-force display that are part of the Sport Chrono Package. Many of these final features sound more like sport features than family ones and they are, you should be allowed to have some fun in this vehicle too, it is a Porsche after all.
The power for hauling your family and all this equipment around comes from three different powertrains. The base model, the Macan S, uses a 3.0-liter twin turbocharged V6 engine that brings in 340 horsepower and 339 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine is attached to the seven-speed PDK double clutch automatic transmission to give perfect shifting and help you achieve the fuel mileage of 17 city/23 hwy mpg to offer a ride you can enjoy on a daily basis.
Using the same transmission on the other two powertrains the next up is the GTS which shows up with a 3.0-liter twin turbocharged V6 that has been tuned up to 360 horsepower and 369 lb.-ft. of torque. As a 2017 version this one has not been rated or fully reviewed yet, but will soon be reviewed for fuel mileage. At the top of the lineup the Macan Turbo is powered by the 3.6-liter twin turbocharged engine that brings in 400 horsepower and 406 lb.-ft. of torque along with the Sport button to increase the redline and shift points for more performance and power. This version of the Macan is rated at a fuel number of 17 city/23 hwy mpg.
The price you pay for the Porsche Macan will surprise you with a car that has this brand name on it. The base price of the S model starts out at $53,500 with the new GTS starting much closer to $69,000 and the Turbo looking for you to pay around $75,000. These are all understandable prices for the Macan which is exceptionally engineered and keeps you at a price point that is under the typical six figure number of some of the sports cars that are made by Porsche, allowing you to enjoy a great luxury SUV that is made for the sport rather than the utility.
This vehicle has the proportions you want for driving, unless you really enjoy the cumbersome drive of a massive SUV or pickup truck. Made to be whipped around corners the Macan offers you what appears to be a 911 that has been bulked up and lengthened to ride a bit higher and fit everyone inside. This SUV brings in some unique performance features in the form of integrated horizontal blades for the air intakes to push the air in to the engine for cooling.
When you step into the Macan it’s to see this is certainly a luxury performance vehicle that is perfect at every turn. You are greeted with the piano black trim, Alcantara seat inserts and brushed aluminum to make the look one that is eye catching throughout the vehicle. Behind the rear seat is a 17.7 cubic feet of cargo space that expands to 53 feet when you put the rear seats down. The control center is highly illuminated to give you the look you want when it’s time for some night time performance driving.
The style, the power, and the features all mean nothing if the vehicle is impossible to drive. The Macan is one that is a lot of fun to drive and whip around the corners and roads in your area. Porsche has been the name to trust in sports cars and with the Macan you can have a small sporty SUV that drives great, fits in any spot in a city or parking area around you. The Macan is a vehicle you want to drive every day; giving you the ride you desire and the equipment you want to be the new Porsche that you want to show off to all your family and friends.
