2016 Toyota Corolla: More Room and Amazing Efficiency
Even though most of us don’t think about the Corolla gaining any benefit from the Prius, they are both made by Toyota and what Prius adds to the Corolla is the benefit of being an extremely efficient car. The Corolla has been a leader in its class and comes in for 2016 offering more space in the back seat to give us what we want in the car, which is space that matches up well with the fuel efficiency we already enjoy. Showing up in a class that includes the Chevrolet Cruze, Ford Focus, Hyundai Elantra and others, the Corolla is a sensible choice that can be fun to drive.
What do you think of when you picture a Toyota product? You think of reliability and value. The Corolla now offers Siri Eyes Free which has been added to the Entune Audio Plus infotainment system and now offers the Entune Premium on the LE, LE Eco and S models. This gives you a car that is more connected and with the added room in the back your passengers are certainly able to be more comfortable than ever before for any kind of drive down the road.
As a sensible choice the ride is excellent and gives the Toyota Corolla the opportunity to be a car that we want use for all of our driving. The suspension offers or a smooth and confident drive, but if you want a sporty ride step into the S model and let it show you what the Corolla can do. The cabin is reasonably quiet to give you the ability to enjoy the ride while listening to music and keeping up a great conversation. The Corolla is still a fantastic choice in the segment, giving you everything you want from a great car.
For the Corolla you can see amazing improvements and enjoy the ride. There are two versions of the one engine found inside the bay of this car. The difference is in the tuning and the transmission that is attached to the engine. This power plant is a 1.8-liter inline four-cylinder engine. For the L, LE and S models it puts out 132 horsepower and 128 lb.-ft. of torque. For the LE Eco model the power shows up at 140 horsepower and 126 lb.-ft. of torque.
The transmissions offered show up as a six-speed manual, four-speed automatic, or CVTi-S automatic. The S model comes in with a 29 city/37 hwy mpg for the CVTi-S automatic and 28 city/37 hwy mpg for the manual. On the LE Eco model the transmission is only the CVTi-S automatic and fuel mileage is 30 city/42 hwy for the base with the Plus and Premium trims offer 30 city/40 hwy mpg giving you fantastic fuel numbers to enjoy with this car.
There is not discussion for this car unless you talk about the interior. There is more room than ever, as mentioned, and the interior material has been upgraded for a much more enjoyable feeling inside the car. The wheelbase is longer which offers the most legroom in the class for rear seat passengers. All controls are easy to find and enjoy with the Entune infotainment system is one that is certainly in tune with your needs with the apps and systems you want to enjoy. Its obvious Toyota wanted the Corolla to garner more attention than ever and with this interior they certainly have.
On the outside you find an even better styling than before. That only makes perfect sense; you wouldn’t want to get inside a car that isn’t attractive to you on the outside. The beautifully sloping front end angles back in an exciting fashion to give you a car that offers a lot of appeal and gorgeous lines. Even though the standard offering is a set of fifteen-inch wheels you might find yourself wanting to move up to the sixteen or seventeen-inch sizes to have a more aggressive and attractive stance on the road.
Equipment is always one of the concerns for most of us when shopping for a car and the Corolla has a nice list of standard features for you to enjoy. The L starts you out with iPod connectivity, Bluetooth calling, air conditioning, a six-speaker audio system, power windows, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, a driver’s seat that has a height adjuster, eight airbags and LED headlights. All this is packed into the most basic of models which you might say is very basic, but for the price you will pay this is an excellent menu of great features.
Going to the optional features the packages add equipment at different trim levels. The LE gives you automat climate control, Entune Audio Plus, bigger wheels and remote keyless entry. The S trim gives you a sport tuned car that adds fog lights, a chrome-tipped exhaust port, a rear spoiler, sportier seats and an instrument cluster that appears to be sport tuned. Moving up to the Driver’s Convenience Package on the Premium trims you get the Entune Premium audio system, an integrated navigation system, a power moonroof and push button starting. All these features will give you everything you want from the Corolla.
The Corolla has always been a fantastic car that offers you a great price. At the base L model the price is $18,065 and can come up to a price just over $24,000 for the S model that is loaded up with every value the car can offer. This pricing puts it in the middle of the pack for the class which is great because so many other base models don’t come with the features found in the Corolla. If you have loved your Corolla for a long time and know you want another this is a great year to buy. If you have never driven a Corolla, give it a try today and see how great this car is.
