2017 Chevrolet Malibu: The Midsize Beauty
Over the years there have been a lot of transitions for the auto industry, most of the time these changes start with the midsize sedan segment. This has been historically the most competitive segment of vehicles on the road to give us excellent vehicles to enjoy driving. At some points certain brands didn’t change as quickly as they could have and the models almost got left behind to be replaced by other versions. Thankfully Chevrolet has finally found a way to make the Malibu more stylish to not only catch up with the rest of the midsized sedan market, but surpass the rest of the group.
As the most stylish sedan in the class the Chevrolet Malibu is a gorgeous vehicle that offers some of the most impressive features. The Malibu now resembles the Impala much more than it did in the past with excellent lines and beautiful curves. This is now a car that is able to offer the fuel efficiency you want and all the features you ask for. For 2017 the Premier model offers a new powertrain, a new Sport package and the addition of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay that are now going to be offered on the LS and LT as well as in all of the hybrid models.
Under the hood of the Malibu we find three engines that can give you exactly the type of ride you want. The base engine is a 1.5-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder model that puts out 160 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine gets attached to a six-speed automatic transmission to bring you a fuel mileage of 27 city/36 hwy, which is outstanding for a midsized car.
Moving up the ladder the next engine offered is a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder that makes 250 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque. This more powerful engine also receives a better transmission in the form of a nine-speed automatic that gives the car a great ride and returns 22 city/33 hwy mpg to you in the form of fuel mileage. There is a new hybrid powertrain as well which uses two electric motors and comes to you with a 1.8-liter inline four-cylinder as well. The engine provides 122 horsepower and 129 lb.-ft. of torque while the electric motors combine for 136 horsepower and 277 lb.-ft. of torque. This gives you a net horsepower rating of 182 for this hybrid model. The fuel mileage of this version of the Malibu is 49 city/43 hwy mpg to be the most efficient powertrain on this car.
Chevrolet has packed a lot into this car to give you the features you want to enjoy. The base L model of the Malibu offers you the basics with air conditioning, cruise control, and a radio. Unless you must shop at the lowest price point you should move up to the LS model which adds Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a USB port, Bluetooth connectivity, a seven-inch MyLink infotainment system, a rearview camera, a full menu of airbags, stability control and OnStar.
Looking to the options that you can have on this car you can enjoy adaptive cruise control, blind spot warning, forward collision alerts, rear cross traffic alerts, the 4G Wi-Fi connection through the OnStar system, a navigation system, an Automatic Parking Assist feature, leather upholstery, and automatic climate controls. These added features make the Malibu a car that’s more engaging to drive and one that you can easily enjoy on any road.
This new and redesigned Malibu is fun and exciting to drive while offering you a smooth ride wherever you want to go. This car has been impressive ever since Chevrolet made the right changes to it and it will certainly be the car you want to have for your family to enjoy the ride and comfort of a great midsized car.
