When we get behind the wheel to drive out on the roads in our area we have certain expectations. If it’s raining, snowing or icy out we expect to see more accidents than normal and need to take our time as we travel on the roads. On sunny days when the roads are dry we expect people around us to drive like normal and be able to handle the challenge of being on the road with care. The desire is that we can get where we want to go on time when we’re out on the roads, especially if everything is normal.
When you live in some areas of the US where snow and ice are a traditional part of each year and the winter months there are some driving experiences that you know you need to be cautious of and wary of. One is having a beater of a car that is meant for the winter months. There’s nothing wrong, in fact its encouraged, to have a cheap car that you don’t mind getting beat around on the road when you have winter driving to do, but you need to know what you’re getting when you buy a cheap car. I’ve written a few tips below, but if you want something more in-depth, I definitely recommend listening to this Lehto’s Law podcast.
If you’re a fan of Mercedes-AMG, you might think everything they build is awesome, and for the most part you’d be right, but this is something completely different. We’ve seen companies build vehicles that cross barriers and blend technologies together. These “frankencars” have become some of the most admired vehicles that have been built in a mad scientist manner with components that were probably never meant to be put together, but somehow work so well together. It seems the entire automotive market looks at cars and what they do to simple say “how can that work for us” and then they figure it out.
The Acura brand often gets overlooked for brands such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi and Lexus, but it shouldn’t. Born from Honda, the Acura models that are offered have been feature filled, easy to drive cars that offer you the dependability and activity you want to enjoy. The RLX is a car that is the top of the lineup for the Acura brand to give you an impressive sedan to drive with AWD and the look and feel you’ll love to enjoy in a car that isn’t as showy as the other brands but soldiers on as one of the best in its class.
You might think the new Ford Raptor that’s coming back for 2017 would be enough for everyone to enjoy and it certainly will be for most of us. A truck that has a V6 and produces 450 horsepower is quite an achievement and the way Ford has added off road bits, larger wheels and a dramatic appearance should make this truck the perfect built where no one is trying to make it bigger, better and stronger. Fortunately, we live in the US and we never settle for anything being enough when there’s no reason not to add more wherever you can.
For the past few years there have been several Chinese companies that have been interested and researching how to make an EV that can go faster. Some investors from this area have put their money into American companies while others have developed on their own. It seems we now have an EV that is actually faster than the Tesla Model S P100D. If that’s the case then this new model has taken down the EV giant, Tesla, which won’t be kept down for long. Let’s take a look at what this new car is.
Over the years there have been a lot of transitions for the auto industry, most of the time these changes start with the midsize sedan segment. This has been historically the most competitive segment of vehicles on the road to give us excellent vehicles to enjoy driving. At some points certain brands didn’t change as quickly as they could have and the models almost got left behind to be replaced by other versions. Thankfully Chevrolet has finally found a way to make the Malibu more stylish to not only catch up with the rest of the midsized sedan market, but surpass the rest of the group.
When it comes to driving one of the most important things to know is how to perform proper maintenance on your vehicle. While many of today’s drivers would be more likely to call someone for help and pay to have their car serviced, even for something simple, there was a time when vehicle maintenance was commonplace and more drivers knew how to fix their cars and stayed in tune with the vehicle, because they had to and because it was a rite of passage and part of the growing up phase of life to learn vehicle maintenance from the older generation.
There have been some rumors and some grumblings. Ford has hinted at the possibility of a 400 horsepower Ford Focus RS that will be the hot hatch for all others to chase around Nurburgring, but this hasn’t come to fruition at all so far. In fact if feels as if Ford has put this project on the back burner for the time being which leaves those of us who are anxious for this power in our Focus with a bit of an unsatisfied feeling. What can we do to have the power we want in the hot hatch we love?
Subaru has an odd reputation in the US automotive market. This is a brand that has a cult following for the Outback, an admiration of followers for the Forester and even some who think the Legacy is still a niche car. This used to be the car you bought when you needed AWD, but it’s become more mainstream than ever before and now the Legacy is equipped with the technology and features you want to have while still giving you the AWD that made it the popular choice in the world of midsize sedans where there seems to be nearly too much competition.
