While the dependence upon electronics to drive us down the road and be able to read all of the lane and road markings is still a few years off, too often we discuss a driver that’s chosen to rely solely on the automation offered inside a vehicle to make sure they can stay safe on the roadways. Even though we are our own worst enemies on the road with our coffee, driver through lunches, makeup applications and even cell phone usage from behind the wheel, there is a responsibility we still have on the road when it comes to driving.
As the place where more cars are making their mark and showing up to debut what we’ll want to see on the market we’ve seen a ton of great supercars that have cross the stage in Geneva. Something has to be special for a relatively unknown name to make it to this show and be something we want to talk about and the Dendrobium from Vanda Electrics is a car that certainly gives us a great look and some impressive features that have made it worthy of at least one discussion.
As the story goes there are times when some cars offer us the performance we want and other cars let us down. If you start the tale with “once upon a time” but replace it with “there once was a car” you see how this could sound very much like a fairy tale. The reality is, there once was a car that was built so perfect it set top speed records that destroyed the competition by several mph and became one of the best performing cars on the road or track that we’ve ever seen.
Over the years of the automotive industry the hatchback is a style of car that we’ve often enjoyed on one hand and been mired with disgust on the other. What do you typically receive when you have a hatchback? Normally these are shorter cars that are easy to park nearly anywhere, give you great gas mileage, have small but enthusiastic engines and a configurable cargo area because the cargo space is typically close to obsolete. There isn’t usually much leg room in the rear seats and you can’t fit a lot of stuff in them while some of these cars of the past had a hard time getting up and down hills.
Have you wondered when, if ever, BMW would put out another i model to go along with the i3 and i8? There has been talk of making this happen, but recent announcements lean toward more than just an i division sub brand, but a full electrification of the brand. BMW expects to take more than just a couple models to the electric powertrains but hopes to create an entire lineup of electric vehicles that offer the power and efficiency desired. To do this they have a few hurdles to jump over.
The Jeep plant in Toledo, OH is where the famed Jeep Wrangler is built and will continue to be built as a new generation begins. This is also a location where much of the FCA profit sharing money will be spent when union workers receive their profit sharing checks this month. This comes at the same time as many tax returns are filed and tax refunds are issued as well, making it easy for the employees of FCA to put money back into their local economy and have the money to put down on a new vehicle that will be right for them to enjoy the ride wherever they need to go.
The GMC Yukon has been admired for many years as one of the most impressive large SUVs on the market. Last year the first four months of the year already showed double-digit increases in sales for this large and powerful SUV, but GMC didn’t rest on its laurels and act satisfied with these results. Instead GMC continued to be an impressive performer in the large SUV market with the Yukon by bringing a special model to the market late in May for us to enjoy the ride. There are still some of these models at dealers now just waiting for you to take them home with you.
If you need a van for work or to transport passengers during your job but you don’t need one that big and brawny because you work in a large city with small streets and alleyways, the right choice for you is the Ford Transit Connect. This is a work van that’s actually smaller than most traditional minivans and it offers you the size and capability you need when you’re looking for a great van to get the job done for you. The Ford Transit Connect is strong enough to get the job done and has 128 cubic feet of cargo space in the cargo van configuration but also has the ability to accommodate up to seven people when you need to make this your people hauler.
The name alone causes some questions in our minds. Are we buying a truck or a wagon, but for those that are familiar with the Ram Power Wagon, there’s no doubt this is one of the most impressive ways to have a powerful off road ready Ram truck that can get the job done and give you the benefit of the features and equipment you want. While you might wonder at the name, it’s hard to wonder at the absolutely impressive capability of this amazing truck.
Two years ago FCA put together a proposal to merge with GM and create the largest automotive company in the world that would be American based. Their proposal was quickly rejected by GM and hasn’t really been a topic of discussion for the past couple years. With new changes in the leadership of the country this merger could be back on the table and could be a possibility, especially with the new position that FCA finds itself in financially. Will there be a merger between these two companies, let’s take a look and see what the ramifications could be.
