Alfa Romeo has certainly had its ups and downs over the years. This is an Italian brand that we’ve loved at some times and hated at others, but it’s been one that carried with it a stellar reputation of sporty models for us to admire and enjoy. Unfortunately, the brand lineup in the US was depleted to the point of only having the 4C and the 4C Spider on the market. The new release of the Giulia has given the brand confidence once again to bring more models to market and the next place they have aimed their gun is at the SUV market.
Even though we were presented with the new Volkswagen ID which will be the next generation of electric vehicles from the brand that has undergone a huge amount of scrutiny because of the recent diesel scandal the current electric model has a place that needs to be kept. Volkswagen needs to continue to be a brand that has success and is trusted as one of the leaders in the market for EV models. Because of this it’s important that the current e-Golf pave the way for the new ID to be ready to be the right EV model for us to enjoy.
The Audi lineup has felt some changes because of the Volkswagen debacle and for this new model year the Q5 will not have a diesel model but it also won’t have a hybrid version either. This year the Q5 will gives us a pair of great models to enjoy in the base Q5 and the SQ5 to give us the comfort and impressive style of the Audi interior to go along with the performance of the high end engine and suspension that we expect from an Audi model that has been one we’ve trusted for years.
“E means Enough,” “the fuel gauge is just a guideline,” “I know my car,” are all things you’ve probably heard from a variety of people who have been stranded on the side of the road in one way or another. While cars of today will give you a ton of warnings when the fuel is low there are still many of us who ignore these warnings and still try and push the fuel to its last drop before adding more to the tank. This really is a bad practice to be in from a mechanical standpoint as much as from a safety one.
If I were to tell you there was a Korean made car that was able to stand out in a market that includes the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Ford Fusion, Chevrolet Malibu, Nissan Altima and Kia Optima you might be surprised and excited to learn what that car was. Once you know it’s the Hyundai Sonata you might think this car was an obvious choice to stand out in this crowd and be one of the cars in this class that offers you more for the money than anything else, because that’s what Hyundai has done for years.
Tesla has an enormous target on itself and it seems as though every single automaker that develops an EV with reasonable range has Tesla in its sights. We’ve seen the new model from Chevrolet, the Bolt that will be able to give us a 200 mile range on a single charge which will compete directly with the Tesla Model 3 when it arrives, but so far we haven’t seen anything brought the market that’s able to compete with the Model S and what Tesla has to offer with this luxury car that’s built to be able to be upgraded.
For years the only name you wanted to think about after Jeep when it comes to off road capability has been Subaru. Today that has changed and it changes with a brand and model we’re familiar with, but with a new built that will make a huge difference. This new build and model are the new Volkswagen Golf Alltrack which is a wagon shaped small SUV that’s built off the Golf platform and is shoved into the Golf lineup. While this vehicle may not appear to fit in with the off road capable SUVs, it will give you a huge surprise and let you head off the beaten path whenever you want.
Standing on the side of the road because your vehicle broke down isn’t so bad when it’s just you or just you and your spouse, but when you have a whole family that becomes stranded this can be a serious challenge to keep everyone happy during this time of crisis. In order to avoid this problem you need to have a vehicle that carries a stellar reliability record, which makes the Toyota Sienna a fantastic choice when you need a new minivan for the family to fit in and love the ride.
One of the cars that has come from Toyota in the history of the company that we talk about and long for its return is the Supra. This car was the sports car that everyone wanted to drive, tuners wanted to get their hands on and was able to win tons of awards when it was on the market. Unfortunately Toyota cancelled the Supra for several years and has only recently revealed that a successor to the Supra is what we will have on the market again in the near future.
With every generation vehicles receive upgrades and redesigns to give them a modern look and feel. Only a few vehicles on the road today look similar to what they did when they were first put on the market, the Jeep Wrangler and Porsche 911 come to mind, and these redesigns have worked out well for some manufacturers and not as well for others. Thankfully even when a redesign doesn’t work out the company can go back and try again when the new generation is over, here are some of the most dramatic redesigns we’ve seen recently.
