Alfa Romeo has certainly had its ups and downs over the years. This is an Italian brand that we’ve loved at some times and hated at others, but it’s been one that carried with it a stellar reputation of sporty models for us to admire and enjoy. Unfortunately, the brand lineup in the US was depleted to the point of only having the 4C and the 4C Spider on the market. The new release of the Giulia has given the brand confidence once again to bring more models to market and the next place they have aimed their gun is at the SUV market.
For many years the standard engine for fuel mileage was a four-cylinder but there has always been a trade-off when you purchase a car with a four-cylinder engine; boredom. These cars often brought in minimal excitement on the road and from under the hood which meant we would not have the feeling or the sound we wanted. Of course, with any rule there is an exception and there have been some exciting four-cylinder cars that gave us the engine note we wanted to hear. These beauties have given us the sound we wanted to go along with an impressive fuel efficiency to enjoy as well.
Alfa Romeo did not make a splash in the US market for many years and when we saw the company return a few years ago what they offered was the limited (severely limited actually) production 8C Competizione coupe and 8C Spider. A few years later and continuing for this model year the 4C is a much more livable item at a better price, not as limited production and with the Alfa Romeo feel. Of course we couldn’t just have the 4C sports car we also had to enjoy the 4C Spider and the success of this pair allowed Alfa Romeo to announce it was going to offer us a new car for 2016.
For years cars have gotten heavier because the new technology installed adds more heft to a vehicle, especially when you add a battery pack to a hybrid. In the past few years many automakers have worked to bring some of these weights down for the purpose of maximizing power and adding more fuel efficiency. You can enjoy more from a car with lower weight from every aspect, more power, more performance and certainly better fuel mileage and automakers can offer you smaller engines to increase the fuel mileage even more. To go along with that when a car is lighter and has turbochargers attached to the engine the horsepower can match higher cylinder numbers with smaller engines, giving us the best of both worlds. Every year we see a long list of new cars come out and sometimes a short list of cars that will no longer be built. With these new offerings on the market it’s nearly impossible to contain the excitement that we feel before they finally make it to market. Before these cars even find their way to the dealerships we want to learn all we can about what they are capable of doing and how they will drive. Of course the actual driving of a new car is what makes it the most exciting, but until they reach the market and offers us a drive here are seven new cars that are coming out soon which you should be excited about and ready to drive for a lot of fun.
