There’s no way an American company can build a luxury car as well as a European one, right? Of course not, BMW and Mercedes-Benz have been the class of the luxury market for generations and don’t seem to be ready to move over. Besides, isn’t Cadillac the brand for older generations to give them a vehicle that’s similar in size and drive to the hearse they will be shuffled off in once they pass on? If that’s your impression of Cadillac, it’s time to wake up and take a look at a brand that has redefined itself and has taken over the market.
The Vice President of the United States, Joseph Biden bet a member of his press pool that the Cadillac CTS-V would be the faster car to reach sixty mph when the Caddy was put up against the Tesla Model S P90D. This sounds like a sure bet as the Cadillac CTS-V is one of the sportiest and fastest Cadillacs ever made which means this car can be taken to the track to compete with the sports cars we know and love on the market. There was more to the logic used by the VP for this bet as he happens to be a bit of a gearhead.
In what list would you ever have a Pagani Huayra and a Chevrolet Spark? Not very many at all, but this list is different than most. While we all love to talk about the horsepower a car has the torque is just as important and in some cases more important than the horsepower. With that in mind how many cars will bring you more torque than horsepower? Only a few will bring you numbers that are higher for the twist than for the forward grunt, but this list shows you those cars and the fact you can find a car in many categories that offers the drivability torque provides.
As the first car built on the new GM Omega RWD architecture that is a large 204 inches in size the CT6 is a car that you might look at as a flagship model. The width is impressive at 74 inches and the CT6 wheelbase is more than ten feet long to give the room on the inside to make this a car that is great to drive. Toss in the longitudinal engine layout and the way everything inside the car just feels longer and larger than what we are used to and you think this is the flagship model from Cadillac.
The CTS is an amazing car and you might think it is the flagship sedan from Cadillac, but the reality is the CT6 is the one that is positioned above the CTS. The CT6 will only be the flagship for a short period of time and will eventually make room for an even better model that is in the works to be the direct competitor with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class sedan, but until that time the CT6 is a great choice at the top of the lineup.
When you head to a car show you are certain to be amazed by the various nameplates you recognize that will show themselves in production later in the model year or after a couple years, but what can take you by surprise and bring your attention to a halt is an interesting looking concept car. Some concepts are so far-fetched there is no way they are ever going to make it to production, but in other cases you can certainly see the potential, especially if the car happens to address a need we as a society are facing.
Every manufacturer from Chrysler to Toyota puts millions of dollars into developing them and they rarely make it to your local new car dealership, but they’re still interesting to see at the shows. With that in mind, here are several great concept cars from a variety of years. Read more
Each year car enthusiast get together in Detroit to cruise the Woodward Dream Cruise and show off their custom made vehicles. Some are older models that are older versions that have been tweaked others are simply the creation of the great imagination of the creators themselves. What happens when you put a 3.6-liter V6 turbocharged engine inside a Cadillac ATS? It becomes the ATS-V model and brings 445 horsepower and 445 lb.-ft. of torque to the party to draw a great deal of attention. Now if this was the power offering for a heavy sports car this would most likely be the beginning model and not impress us at all, but the fact this nearly Corvette like power is seated firmly in the ATS making the ATS have enough power to compete easily with the BMW M3/M4. This awesome engine is mated to a six speed manual or the awesome eight-speed automatic transmission that is found in the Corvette. Read more
Not sure what you’d want to do with that much power, but this definitely isn’t the type of Cadillac you see cruising around the lake on a Sunday drive.
As a true Cadillac the SRX is a great crossover SUV and the little brother to the Escalade that sets the tone for all luxury SUVs to try and sound off to. Because not everyone is looking for an SUV that has the bulk of the Escalade and the sales numbers support the fact that smaller SUV’s are more popular than larger ones for the size, performance, handling and ease of use. For those reasons the SRX is entering its fifth year of existence in a class with the BMW X3, Audi Q5 and Mercedes-Benz GLK.
The SRX offers a much more comfortable ride and interior than its competition as well as a very powerful V6. Even though it isn’t as athletic looking as the competitors the SRX has many more luxury features than any of the others allowing the SRX to show off as why Cadillac is still the luxury leader of the world and even has the best in the luxury crossover SUV class. For 2015 the SRX adds a few new colors to choose from as well as the addition of 4G LTE with a built in Wi-Fi hotspot integrated in the OnStar system.
