Lexus Flagship SUV, the LX, Stands Tall and Rides Well
Many luxury SUVs don’t make it off the paved roads to head out and venture into the wilderness or go down trails that some want to traverse. Most of the time they spend their days driving on highways and city streets to be admired by many and enjoyed by owners who are basking in the luxury. The Lexus LX is an SUV that offers the pleasure of driving in a high end luxury SUV along with having the benefit of being able to head off road whenever needed. As the flagship vehicle in the SUV class for Lexus it is built to impress and offers high end features, excellent ground clearance and plenty of off road capability to go along with a 7,000 pound towing capacity.
In a world where SUVs have typically gotten smaller and less capable, the Lexus LX has stayed large and in charge with size and capability that are in place for owners to take this big beast out for a drive just about anywhere they want to go. For 2015 the Lexus LX adds the Siri Eyes-Free compatibility for the iPhone 4S and 5 smartphones. With that being the only real change to this already excellent vehicle, the LX makes a great choice for anyone who needs the size and capabilities of a big SUV.
As one of the heaviest SUVs on the market, weighing in at more than the Infiniti QX80 and Cadillac Escalade, the Lexus LX actually handles very well, better than most of the smaller SUVs. This is the result of a highly sophisticated three mode suspension that makes the ride as comfortable and smooth as possible, dispelling all road imperfections. The steering system is balanced and exceptional giving the LX the feeling of quick and agile response, something not found often in a larger SUV. Add a very quiet cabin that gives all LX owners the opportunity to listen to their choice of sounds or enjoy a peaceful ride.
Only one engine is present in the Lexus LX, and it’s a great engine to haul this beast on or off the road. This engine comes in the form of a 5.7-liter V8 engine that offers up to 383 horsepower and 403 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission that helps offer a fuel mileage of 12 city/17 hwy mpg. With fuel efficiency not being the main reason to buy this vehicle the LX has a full time four-wheel drive system with a Torsen limited-slip differential to make this a very capable vehicle off the road and a superior ride with great control on the road.
With seating for up to eight the LX offers the ability to comfortably tote the whole family. Both rear rows of seats have automatic fold features and the third row doesn’t fold flat but rather to the sides allowing for a full flat floor for hauling the additional gear and equipment needed to take on a weekend job when needed. The legroom is excellent in the second row, but the third row is really limited to children for its size. All controls are upscale and high-tech giving the LX plenty of awesome features and equipment to enjoy and take full advantage of and enjoy being bathed in an interior covered in luxury.
As a traditional looking SUV with a large exterior that is really a massive box on wheels. The front of the LX shows off the signature Lexus hourglass shaped grill and plenty of chrome to allow all who see this vehicle to know this is truly a luxury SUV. Flanking this grill are two HID headlights with LED running lights that offer great visibility at any time day or night. With smooth panels and a very upscale overall look the LX has a sophisticated presence about it even with this massive size. Carrying this bulk along the road are a full set of star shaped and spoked wheels that look pristine and fit in great with this awesome SUV.
The Lexus LX offers a very long list of standard features, as expected from such a massive and enjoyable Luxury SUV. This list includes the permanent four-wheel drive, quad-zone climate control, a power moonroof, a power tilt/telescoping steering wheel, leather upholstery, mahogany wood trim, a 14-way power driver’s seat, a navigation system, a rearview camera, the Lexus Enform infotainment system, a nine-speaker audio system with HD Radio, Bluetooth audio streaming, USB and iPod inputs, ten airbags, stability control and an Emergency Assistance Button which is a system that will attempt to contact the driver in the event of a severe accident and will contact and send help if needed. With such a long list of great features for any driver to fully enjoy the Lexus LX is a dynamic and enjoyable luxury SUV.
The optional features that are offered for this large SUV do not make up a very long list, mostly because the vehicle comes with so many awesome features as standard equipment. However, for the extras, there are some bundles to choose from that include some very nice additions such as ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, heated second-row seating, a center mounted cooler, radar-based cruise control, a pre-collision system, a dual-screen DVD rear seat entertainment system, a surround camera system and a massive Mark Levinson audio system with 19-speakers to give a theater quality sound experience inside this SUV.
As a large luxury SUV the Lexus LX starts out at a large price as well coming as the base model just under $84,000. Adding all the additional features will bring the price up to close to $91,500 but gives owners the top end of the comfort and luxury they can enjoy from an SUV. For many years the benchmark for a luxury SUV had rested with the Cadillac Escalade, but with such an impressive and loaded SUV on the market at the Lexus LX, that mark may be moving to this outstanding luxury SUV.
