A Look at the Sleek and Sporty 2015 Hyundai Elantra
As a compact car that has become an icon as a sleek and stylish offering sought after by many car lovers the Elantra comes into 2015 ready to take over the compact car class completely and put others like the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla and Ford Focus to shame. The Elantra boasts one of the strongest and longest running track records for reliability and resale value making it a highly sought after offering from Hyundai. The addition of the Hyundai 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty helps the Elantra be a car many shoppers are clamoring to buy.
With a sophisticated appearance the Elantra has the style of a much more expensive car but at a great price and excellent fuel efficiency. Hyundai brings the Elantra into the 2015 model year having undergone only slight changes. Three new option packages are offers as well as a new set of colors for shoppers to choose from, otherwise this is the same great car that was offered and loved for the 2014 model year.
The driving and performance of the Elantra comes in somewhere in between the Mazda3 and Ford Focus and the Chevrolet Cruze and Nissan Sentra to offer owners a great ride in a vehicle that doesn’t break their piggy bank. The Elantra offers a very smooth and highly controlled ride anywhere the driver takes it. With an improved and highly tuned suspension the occupants will barely if ever feel the road abrasions that are everywhere the car may go. Add to this the expertly refined steering and the Elantra can be a joy to drive on the curviest of roads or to dart in and out of traffic. Amazingly for a compact car, the Elantra offers a very quiet cabin that dispels all road noises and allows the occupants to listen to what they want to hear instead, allowing the owner to enjoy a quiet ride home from work, or the ability to easily enjoy a Sunday cruise.
Two engines are offered across the entire line of Elantra trims and models, which is extensive, starting with the 1.8-liter inline four-cylinder engine that is offered for the SE, and Limited sedan. This engine comes in with 145 horsepower and 130 lb.-ft. of torque. The transmission offered for the SE model comes in the form of a six-speed manual that offers a fuel economy of 27 city/37 hwy mpg or a six-speed automatic transmission that reaches a fuel economy of 28 city/38 hwy mpg. For the Limited model the only offering is the six-speed automatic that comes in with 27 city/37 hwy mpg as the fuel numbers.
The second engine is a much more powerful and sport inspired engine in the form of a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine offered for the Coupe, Sport sedan and GT. This engine comes to the party with 173 horsepower and 154 lb.-ft. of torque. The fuel efficiency across the board comes in as 24 city/34 hwy mpg for the six-speed manual transmission on the Sedan and GT models, 24 city/35 hwy mpg for the six-speed automatic transmission on the Sedan, 24 city/34 hwy mpg for the six-speed automatic transmission on the Coupe and 24 city/33 hwy mpg for the six-speed automatic transmission on the GT model. The automatic adds an Eco mode to help further enhance fuel economy and a manual shift mode to add a sportier feel.
Even though this is a compact car by size standards, the interior is so large it has been classified as a midsized car by the EPA. Knowing that makes the Elantra even more attractive than before and the cabin offers a ton of space to enjoy along with comfortable and soft materials to give the feeling of style when seated inside the vehicle. The trunk space is one of the largest in the class and when the backseats are folded down a great deal of cargo can find its way into this great compact car. All controls are very intuitively places allowing for ease of use along with comfort and confidence behind the wheel.
From the outside the Elantra is sharp and shapely with smooth lines all over the vehicle. In fact there doesn’t seem to be a single sharp edge to be found until a look it taken at the rear. The front grill offers a small smirk that seems to know this is the best car in the class and the headlights that flank this grill sweep deeply backward to give the first look and feel at the speed inspired car. The complete design is very fluid in nature, which seems to have been the aim of Hyundai from the start of the vehicle building process. Finally, the wheels are star-spoked and add a touch of class to a very classy and sporty looking compact car.
The standard features offered for the Elantra include a manual transmission, air conditioning, cruise control, power windows, a telescoping steering wheel, keyless entry, Bluetooth connectivity, aluminum-alloy wheels and a 172-watt six-speaker audio system with satellite radio and USB and iPod inputs are all standard for the SE model. The Coupe and GT models add heated front seats and the GT adds a glove compartment cooler. The Coupe and sedan models have six airbags and seven are onboard for the GT version which adds a driver’s knee airbag.
From the SE model the Elantra offers two upgrades; the Sport and the Limited. The Sport adds the more powerful engine and the Limited adds more luxury. The new package offered for the SE models come in the form of the Style package that adds a moon roof, a leather wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, projector headlights and chrome and aluminum accents. The Tech package for the Sport model adds a navigation system and an upgraded audio system that includes Hyundai BlueLink. The Limited gain a new Ultimate Package that adds a navigation system, a sun roof, an upgraded audio system, dual-zone climate controls and push button starting.
Starting the pricing, the base Elantra SE comes in just over $18,000 while the Sport model will start around $22,500 and the Limited will start just slightly lower at $22,460. The GT hatchback will enter the price range around $19,500 and the coupe will be a bit higher at $20,500. The automatic transmission will add an additional $1,000 to any price tag and a fully loaded Elantra will top the charts at a still affordable $27,000 making it a very affordable and easy to love vehicle to drive.
