Toledo loves Jeep. The plant in Toledo employs a good number of people and they’ve been very busy this year. The plant is on pace to produce 500,000 Jeeps for the first time in their history.
It’s great news for Fiat Chrysler, but it’s also incredible news for the automotive industry in general. Jeep has never been a bellwether for the industry when it comes to sales, but the increase in production and the flagship status that they’ve unexpectedly created for their new bosses has given a ray of hope that the trends of positive sales in the industry for the last two years will continue.
When was the last time you visited a car dealership’s website? If it’s been a while, I’ll describe them for you in one word: confounding. The vast majority that I visited recently were challenging to navigate and tried to accomplish everything from every department on nearly every page.
I don’t blame the dealers. This is what is recommended to them by many of the marketing venues and ad agencies that they use. Thankfully, I found some using the alternative methodology of specific landing pages rather than old school drug store windows as they appear to be on other sites.
Most don’t think of the Jeep lineup of vehicle as luxury models, but they took the Grand Cherokee to a new level of luxury in 2015. More likely they are thought of as rugged off road capable machines that can tackle the outdoors and are enjoyed by those who are ready to head out camping or to the lake for a great weekend of fun. The Jeep Grand Cherokee for this new model year is one that has improved its technology and interior to be able to compete not only with the likes of the Toyota 4Runner and Volkswagen Touareg, but also with the Mercedes-Benz M-Class. In addition to the interior improvements, the Grand Cherokee offers better on road performance than before without giving up any of it’s off road capabilities.
For the 2015 model, the Grand Cherokee SRT adds five horsepower to bring it up to 475 total horsepower as well as adding Active Noise Cancellation for the SRT and Summit models. Driving a Grand Cherokee offers a very enjoyable electrically assisted steering system which deftly shifts the weight and gives balance to the vehicle. The suspension, while made for the off road trails, performs exceptionally well on the road as well giving this SUV a great deal of driving pleasure from a very smooth ride. Add the quiet cabin to the mix and this SUV does really reach up toward the Luxury SUV segment and should gain some notice from the engineers at BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
The tagline of the Mazda family has been “Zoom Zoom” since early 2000. This slogan embraces the spirit of the Mazda family, inspiring a sense of fun and whimsy that accompanies driving a Mazda. Coupled with the “If It’s Not Worth Driving, It’s Not Worth Building” campaign; Mazda’s advertising efforts firmly cement the brand’s philosophy about their cars. Already a leader in the SUV field, Mazda’s compact models are often overlooked, but don’t be fooled; it’s not because they’re not worthy.
In line with the Ford Focus and the VW Golf, the Mazda 3 falls right into Mazda’s niche market; those looking for a fun car that can perform with efficiency. With a graceful new design that focuses on Mazda’s KODO: Soul of Motion principle, the 2015 Mazda 3 even looks fun to drive. The remodel for 2015 focuses heavily on the grill and headlamps and a newly streamlined roof design that gives the 3 an impressive and imposing new look.
With most recommendations about marketing, it’s important to survey enough people, pull in the data, and understand it all properly. When it comes to marketing in the automotive industry, one does not need to use the scientific method to detail the things that are annoying at multiple levels. Common sense works just fine.
This isn’t intended to pick on the car business. Most industries have their own poor traits in marketing that should be changed. Has anyone every received a fast food item that came close to matching the advertising for it? Still, this blog is about the car business, so we’re staying focused on what they’re doing wrong or simply could do better.
Many luxury SUVs don’t make it off the paved roads to head out and venture into the wilderness or go down trails that some want to traverse. Most of the time they spend their days driving on highways and city streets to be admired by many and enjoyed by owners who are basking in the luxury. The Lexus LX is an SUV that offers the pleasure of driving in a high end luxury SUV along with having the benefit of being able to head off road whenever needed. As the flagship vehicle in the SUV class for Lexus it is built to impress and offers high end features, excellent ground clearance and plenty of off road capability to go along with a 7,000 pound towing capacity.
In a world where SUVs have typically gotten smaller and less capable, the Lexus LX has stayed large and in charge with size and capability that are in place for owners to take this big beast out for a drive just about anywhere they want to go. For 2015 the Lexus LX adds the Siri Eyes-Free compatibility for the iPhone 4S and 5 smartphones. With that being the only real change to this already excellent vehicle, the LX makes a great choice for anyone who needs the size and capabilities of a big SUV.
For many years, Ford’s F-150 has been the truck to beat on the bestsellers lists, and it looks as though the newly remodeled F-150 is retaining the crown. This is fantastic news in the automotive community considering this is going to be the first model released with the new body style. Given the massive redesign, there have been a plethora of doubters regarding the future of the truck’s popularity.
The overhaul of the former model features an aluminum body, in an effort to lighten up the nearly three ton pickup. The switch-up has been both highly contested and lauded as the potential future of vehicles. Due to shaving off almost 1000 pounds, the new F-150 boasts an impressive 25MPG, an upswing from the mileage the often accompanies driving a truck. With a company whose motto has been “Built Ford Tough”, the redesign has critics questioning “Really?”
With a long and luxurious profile and a very powerful engine to go along with the Mercedes-Benz namesake and full array of luxury features, the SLS-Class is a super car that offers everything high-end sports car owners are looking for, especially in the luxury segment. Pushed to greatness to outperform the competition that comes in the form of the Aston Martin DB8, Ferrari California and Bentley Continental the SLS-Class offers a great deal of horsepower in either the coupe or convertible forms.
At the top of the line, the SLS AMG GT Final Edition will have a short run of only 350 cars making it a very special offering that only a few can enjoy. This special edition of the SLS will come in with some carbon-fiber additions such as the hood, front splitter and rear spoiler. This version also enjoys some unique AMG forged wheels and a Disigno diamond-pattern leather interior which all together makes this version of the SLS a very high-end offering that is very sought after in the high end luxury sports car market.
As a compact car that has become an icon as a sleek and stylish offering sought after by many car lovers the Elantra comes into 2015 ready to take over the compact car class completely and put others like the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla and Ford Focus to shame. The Elantra boasts one of the strongest and longest running track records for reliability and resale value making it a highly sought after offering from Hyundai. The addition of the Hyundai 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty helps the Elantra be a car many shoppers are clamoring to buy.
With a sophisticated appearance the Elantra has the style of a much more expensive car but at a great price and excellent fuel efficiency. Hyundai brings the Elantra into the 2015 model year having undergone only slight changes. Three new option packages are offers as well as a new set of colors for shoppers to choose from, otherwise this is the same great car that was offered and loved for the 2014 model year.
When the words super car are spoke the thoughts often turn to makers such as Lamborghini, Ferrari, Maserati and others, but not Nissan. However that thinking must change when looking at the Nissan GT-R. With a price tag that reaches over $100,000 the GT-R is not priced for the budget conscious, but it does offer a much better price than its international competition. With a full complement of racecar technology and massive horsepower this awesome street racer has enough juice to give a serious thrill ride to any driver and up to three passengers that will stick them in their seats with nothing but smiles on their faces.
Sporting a zero to sixty time that is under three seconds the GT-R has a top speed of 196 mph and the base engine brings in a monstrous 545 horsepower. If that isn’t enough horses, there is a track-oriented NISMO edition that brings 600 horsepower to really bring it and blow everything else away. The 2015 model added a Bose Active Noise Cancellation system to help keep the cabin much quieter as well as multi-LED headlights, circular tail lights, a stiffer anti roll bar, a race tuned suspension and the NISMO edition is also new for 2015.
