The Right Move for 2018 by Volkswagen
While the VW brand is working toward the electrification of their lineup they can’t deny the success that’s been part of the US market for SUVs over the past several years. Because of this success the brand has redesigned and remade the Volkswagen Tiguan for 2018 and has recently shown it off at the North American International Auto Show. this new SUV is growing by being longer and more capable to attract a larger audience of shoppers that would love to have this SUV for their daily driving duties. This new version of the SUV will continue to make good use of the space and convenience offered while providing the performance agility and value we want to enjoy.
Here are some things you need to know about the Tiguan as you prepare for its addition to the market for 2018:
Larger – As mentioned this SUV is going to be longer with an additional 10.7 inches of length and a third row of seats being offered. This comes along with an increase of the cargo area by nearly 57 percent as well.
Design – The new Tiguan uses the MQB platform and has a lower stance than the previous model while adding a stronger design that rids itself of the round edges while adding a sloping rear tailgate to give more space in the rear.
Performance – The power numbers change slightly with the new and smaller 2.0-liter turbocharged engine providing 184 horsepower and 221 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine uses an updated eight-speed automatic transmission and will be offered with a dynamic AWD.
Interior – Out with the old and in with the new, the interior space has been updated with a look that rivals the luxury brands with its appeal and attractiveness. This is an area you can feel comfortable and enjoy the ride with the purposeful items you want and the right controls to give you the space you’ll love.
Seating – This new version of the Tiguan will offer you room for seven people to ride inside. The second row splits in a 40/20/40 fashion to be perfect for you to enjoy a versatile cargo space when needed. This seat also slides forward and backward to allow easier access for those who are headed to the rear.
Technology – The readout for the driver has taken a page out of the Audi book with a digital display that’s similar to the Virtual Cockpit offered by Audi. The Car-Net infotainment system also integrates your smartphone with the vehicle through Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink. If you want to hear your music even clearer upgrade to the Fender Premium Audio system and enjoy the tunes.
Safety – As the safety tests have become more difficult to pass the safety has been upgraded. The new Tiguan offers you a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, active lane keep technology, forward collision warnings and much more. There is also a post collision braking system to help avoid further damage after an initial collision.
Competition – Because the Tiguan is moving to a larger wheelbase with seven passenger seating this SUV will be more apt to move up to a class that’s full of larger models. In the past this SUV competed with the CR-V, Escape, RAV4 and Rogue where the new 2018 model should fit in with the Pilot, Sorento, Highlander and Durango.
Pricing – We don’t have the pricing structure of the new Tiguan just yet but it should be in line with the rest of the mass market SUVs in its class. The fact its moving up to a larger class will cause it to be a bit more expensive, but you’re receiving a lot more SUV than in the past.
This new Volkswagen Tiguan seems to check off all the important boxes and makes it easy for us to see how this new SUV will be one that may become a leader for sales in the market. The Tiguan has the looks it has the size and it has the European driving dynamics that you’ll love to enjoy on the road. As we get closer to 2018 we’ll get to learn more about this new SUV and what it brings to the market.
