The Results of the First Show of the Year

The Detroit Auto Show is the one that marks the beginning of every year to give us a look at what we can expect for the next several months. Some brands bring vehicles that we admire and certainly look forward to when it arrives on the market, while others end up bringing duds to this show and need to head back to the drawing board to create a new version of what they’ve decided they want to offer when it makes its way to the market. Let’s take a look at some of the winners and losers from the 2018 Detroit Auto Show.

2019 Ram 1500 –This truck is certainly a winner and it brought a look, build, and attributes that make it one of the most impressive choices that came to this show. This truck is lighter, stronger, and more capable than before while adding a ton of excellent technological updates including a 48-volt mild-hybrid system and a touchscreen for the infotainment that’s massive in size.

2019 Hyundai Veloster –Here is another winnerfrom the show. This car is one of the most anticipated because it’sentering a second generation and will be the first performance model as part of the new N sub-brand from Hyundai. This performance version will give you as much as 275 horsepower to have an excellent ride around the tracks in your area.

Kia Forte –Another winner at the show, this is a car that has taken a nod from the new Stinger to give us a style and a shape that we can admire and enjoy. This car is longer than it was in the past andfeatures an impressive and efficient engine that can give you the ability to have up to 35 mpg on the highway while you show off in the smart sedan you chosefor thedrive.

Mercedes-AMG 53 Series Models –There was a series of cars wearing this number on them which are powered by an impressive 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine that brings you up to 429 horsepower and 384 lb.-ft. of torque. This system is augmented by a 48-volt electrical system and these cars were certainly winners at this show.

2019 Chevrolet Silverado –Here is a truck that should be a winner and make headline news, but it feels like it might have been rushed to the show to try and upstage the Ram that was already coming to the show. This is an impressive model with a weight loss of 450 pounds and an excellent diesel engine which leaves us undecided on whether this was a winner or a loser.

2019 Volkswagen Jetta –Another undecided model is the new Jetta that brings more style than we’ve seen in this car over the past several years. This car is offered with an excellent warranty and is designed well while it has some of what you’ve known in the past. The feeling is, this car could be more and could have become much more for the quality and the drive desired.

2019 Toyota Avalon –For the most part, the Avalon has been a car that’s walked a fine line between the mainstream and the luxury, but this new model shows up with a massive plastic grill that looks a bit ungainly to become a model that lost many that might have admired it. This was one time that Toyota was a loser at this show.

2019 Ford Ranger –One of the most highly anticipated reveals of the Show was this midsized pickup truck, but it turns out the truck appears to be one that could be considered the leftovers that the rest of the world doesn’t want. The one that arrived at the show only gave us one powertrain for the drive and unfortunately made this a loser from this show last month.

2019 Ford Edge ST –This new SUV looks great and certainly gives us the thought that it might be fun to drive, but do we really need a performance model in the midsize crossover SUV we drive? This is a gorgeous model but is a loser for the lack of practicality that it may come with when it makes the way to the dealership lots around the country.
