2021 Honda CR-V vs. the Toyota RAV4

Compact SUVs are gaining popularity across the country. They provide robust engines, spacious cargo areas, and killer good lucks. While this crossover class is starting to crowd with various options, there are still two powerhouses that top every driver’s wish list. Both the 2021 Honda CRV and the Toyota RAV4 have been in the compact SUV game for a long time.

Since the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 are the biggest hitters in this segment, it’s worth exploring which one is the better buy. Here’s what you need to know about how these two compare.

2021 Honda CR-V is Easier On Your Wallet

Price isn’t the only factor to consider when purchasing a new vehicle, but it definitely plays a role. Both the Honda CR-V and the Hyundai RAV4 have a slightly higher cost than other options in their class, but they are both well worth the extra.

The CR-V has a lower price than the RAV4 on every comparable trim level. Of course, it’s always worth building out the exact model you want before comparing prices.

Built to Last

J.D. Power is a known entity for predicting reliability regarding new vehicles. According to their ratings, the Honda CR-V earns higher ratings than the RAV4. Of course, they both earn higher than average scores, so either is going to keep you running.

Both options also come with a three-year/36,000-mile basic warranty and a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty.

Room to Grow in the 2021 Honda CR-V

If you’re interested in driving an SUV because of your need for cargo space, you’ll be happy with either the CR-V or the RAV4. Both of these crossovers offer above-average cargo areas. When you compare the two, the Honda version has a slightly larger cargo area, both when the back seats are up or folded down.

While you’re judging the inside of these vehicles, it’s also worth noting that the CR-V uses soft-touch materials throughout the cabin. The RAV4, on the other hand, uses a good deal of hard plastics.

It’s Off To The Races

While SUVs don’t try to compete with sports cars, it is nice to have something with a little pickup. Both of these options will add a little pep to your step, but the Toyota RAV4 will win the race.

The Honda CR-V comes equipped with a 1.5-liter turbo engine that delivers a powerful 190 hp. On the other hand, the RAV4 is loaded with a 2.5-liter engine offering 203 hp.

The Verdict – The 2021 Honda CR-V Pulls Ahead

Both the Honda CR-V and the Toyota RAV4 are amazing compact SUVs, which is why the top every “Best” list available. Ultimately, the Honda CR-V is the smarter buy. It is bigger, more reliable, and comes with a lower MSRP. That’s not to say that the RAV4 doesn’t have its strengths. If you’re looking for something with a little more pickup, the Toyota option may be better for you. Otherwise, the CR-V ranks higher in nearly every other category.
