Not too long ago, the only way you could enjoy what the new 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander had to offer was to see it in camouflage.
As of February 16, this SUV had the wraps taken off to give us the full reveal of what it brings to the market for our driving enjoyment. Even though we now know what this vehicle gives us, it’s sometimes fun to take a look back at the testing models and what they showed us.
Taking on the World
The world is made of different terrain with waterways, dirt tracks, gravel, and mud. When we saw the testing version of the Outlander out for a drive, it was fording water, going through the mud, and taking on the challenges of a track that can be handled at high speeds. This affordable SUV made short work of all three, which signals that it was ready to give us the performance and drive we want to enjoy.
Mitsubishi Adds Rally Racing Qualities to the Outlander
You might not be aware of it, and most in our country probably aren’t, but Mitsubishi has been a longstanding name in Rally Racing. This includes the Dakar, which is one of the most significant races on the schedule every year. Add the benefits of the latest version of Super All-Wheel Control to the Outlander gives it some of the Rally qualities we admire.
The Swirling Imagery of the Testing Versions
Watching the testing models of the Mitsubishi Outlander driving around a track, through the mud, or on a sandy desert can be a bit of a challenge. The swirling shapes used as part of the camouflage make it hard to see the body lines and get a full feel of the shape of the vehicle, and it can be a bit of a visual illusion in some ways. Even so, seeing the testing models out a few weeks before the reveal allows us to know this is a highly capable SUV.
We See the Engelberg Tourer Concept in this SUV
The 2019 auto show tour gave us a look at the Mitsubishi Engelberg Tourer Concept model that carried style elements we wanted to find in a production model. Although covered in the swirling camo, the testing model of the Outlander offered hints of items that came from this concept version that was featured at Mitsubishi booths around the auto show circuit before the COVID-19 pandemic hit the globe.
No Power Revealed at Testing
One of the items we didn’t gain from the testing model offered before the release of the Mitsubishi Outlander was the powertrains that will be offered. We do know this information now, but since this is a look back, we’re not going to add them to the mix. What you will find when you see the new Outlander is an SUV that can easily give you the drive and qualities that will fit your lifestyle and allow you to head out on the trails when you want to be more adventurous.
