2021 Ford Edge VS Ford EcoSport

When discussing Ford SUVs, it’s almost a given that the topic will include the Explorer, or Expedition. But the Ford Explorer and Expedition don’t do it all alone. They get help from the compact Ford Edge and the EcoSport.

2021 Ford Edge: Brief Breakdown

As we’ll discuss further below, the Ford Edge has more of the “feel” of being an SUV than the EcoSport. So right off the bat, if you’re looking to have the visual impact of an SUV, then go with the Edge.

The 2021 Ford Edge line features three different trim packages.

Edge SE

The SE package comes with a nice 2.0L EcoBoost Engine, with 8-speed automatic transmission. Not that you’d buy either of these for drag racing, but the Edge is going to whip-up on the EcoBoost all day off the blocks.

Edge SEL

The SEL is road-trip ready with its available silver roof rack side rails. With the SEL package, you also get the excellent Ford Co-Pilot 360 Assist+ feature. Assist+ includes Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go and navigation.

Edge ST

The Edge ST has enough features to make diehard Explorer fans reconsider. Its key difference is the 2.7L V6 EcoBoost Engine. The ST Performance Brake Package includes 21-inch premium gloss black-painted aluminum wheels. And the red-painted brake calipers to add to the impressive aesthetic.

2021 Ford EcoSport: Brief Breakdown

With four different trim options, the Ford EcoSport is a subcompact SUV for the masses. The Ford Edge focuses more on the outdoor, DIY crowd. With the EcoSport aimed at commuters concerned with fuel efficiency over durability.

EcoSport S

The entry-level EcoSport comes with Auto Start-Stop Technology and a 1.0L EcoBoost Engine. This is the perfect post-pandemic vehicle for the in-city commuter. You get great gas mileage in a nice affordable package.

EcoSport SE

The EcoSport SE has some nice bonuses within. The 8-inch color LCD touchscreen with pinch to-zoom navigation is an excellent add-in. Intelligent 4WD is an option with the EcoSport SE too.

EcoSport Titanium

The EcoSport Titanium represents a significant upgrade for a reasonable amount more. Heated front bucket seats improve the interior’s feel while providing a premium look. The B&O Sound System comes with 10 speakers for an all-immersive audio experience.

EcoSport SES

When you upgrade to the SES package, your EcoSport ups its curbside appeal a great deal. This new stylish look comes courtesy of the SES Black Appearance Package. The fog lamp bezels and black headlamp round out the neo-noir vibe.

Which is better?

Your decision between the Ford EcoSport versus Ford Edge depends on what you’re looking to put into it and get out of it. If you’re looking to get more than a friend or two in there, go with the Edge. If you’re looking to reduce the price at the pump, come fill-up time, go with the EcoSport.
