2023 Toyota Sequoia: The New Big-Daddy of Toyota

With the Land Cruiser out of our market, the Toyota Sequoia becomes the flagship three-row SUV for the brand and its ready to be the big daddy of this brand.

That’s a lot of pressure for an SUV that’s found a way to hide in the shadows of the Land Cruiser for many years. Not to worry, though; the Sequoia is perfectly capable of flying the flag and carrying forward as the top model in the SUV range. For 2023, this big brute brings a new generation, more luxury features, and the capability we love when we think of large Toyota SUVs.

The Sequoia Continues with a Traditional Build

Even though we see a new generation for this big and bold three-row SUV, it doesn’t mean it’s gone into the unibody market. The Sequoia continues onward with a traditional body-on-frame construction to give us the size and build we want to see. This sturdy and impressive SUV delivers excellent towing capability, the size we need, and the look that makes sense. If you want to head out on the trails, you’ll find plenty to admire about how the Sequoia performs on the trails. This could be your next adventure machine, ready to take your boat to the lake.

Driving Made Right, With the Right Trims

The 2023 version of the Toyota Sequoia brings you selectable driving modes that are Eco, Normal, and Sport. If you opt for the rear air suspension or the full adaptive suspension, Comfort and Sport S+ modes are added to the mix, along with a setting just for you. The TRD Sport has a sportier suspension to give you more performance and connection with the road. The TRD Off-Road package makes things more interesting with a locking rear differential, Multi-Terrain Select, and Crawl Control features that help make your drive on any trail more comfortable.

What Makes this Toyota SUV a Great Option?

The new Sequoia is spacious, giving everyone plenty of room to be comfortable inside this SUV. The hybrid drivetrain offers good efficiency and plenty of power. If you’re wondering about this drivetrain impacting the towing ability, don’t worry, the Sequoia tows up to 9,000 pounds, which is more than most SUVs. The third row of seats slides to give you configurable space in the rear of this impressive SUV. If you’re looking for luxury but want the Toyota capability, the Capstone trim has you covered with some excellent features.

The Cabin Continues to be Spacious

We’ve never heard a complaint about the Toyota Sequoia being too small, and we likely won’t either. This SUV delivers an adult-friendly third row that makes it easy for everyone to feel comfortable when inside this impressive SUV. The base model offers seating for eight, while higher trims give you the option of captain’s chairs in the middle row. The rear row travels six inches to configure the cargo and passenger room as needed. Behind the third row, an optional adjustable cargo shelf system brings some easy organization to the stuff you want to take with you.

Style Shared With a Gorgeous Toyota Truck

The Sequoia shares some styling features with the Tundra. These two vehicles share a platform and bring an attractive look to the road for you. You’ll love the build and size of the Sequoia when you’re looking for an SUV that delivers a commanding presence on the road. Wheels range from 18 to 22-inches in size, and the Capstone trim rides on wheels finished with chrome. Pick one of the regular colors or go a little wild with Supersonic Red or Solar Octane for your Sequoia SUV.

One Hybrid Powertrain for All Trims

Much the same as the Sequoia has done for many years, only one powertrain is offered for this SUV. This new model has an improved set up which is a 3.4-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine plus an electric motor. This hybrid power plant mates to a ten-speed automatic transmission to send 437 horsepower and 523 lb-ft of torque to the wheels. This output is much higher than the previous generation of the Sequoia, which used an old-school V8 engine to give it the power for a drive. We don’t have fuel mileage numbers yet but expect this hybrid Sequoia to offer good numbers compared to other full-size SUVs.
