2024 Acura RDX: A Perfect Blend of Luxury and Practicality
If a compact crossover SUV is on the menu, the 2024 Acura RDX should be near the top of your list. This little SUV started in 2007 and is only getting better.
The luxury car market has several levels of quality and driving performance. Some luxury brands are so focused on performance that comfort and highway driving qualities have gone by the wayside. Although the Acura brand doesn’t quite reach the luxury levels of BMW or Mercedes-Benz, you’ll find an impressive package of features, comfortable seats, and excellent technology in every RDX model.
Pros and Cons of the RDX
- Standard SH-AWD provides excellent handling
- Long list of standard features
- Upscale, functional interior
- The infotainment system could be better
- Rear visibility is lacking
- Not as quiet as a luxury SUV should be
What did Acura add to this small SUV?
For 2024, the RDX receives some upgrades, most notably the addition of standard SH-AWD. In addition to this new system, the RD has improved styling elements with new paint and wheel options. The improved suspension provides better ride quality, and active noise cancellation reduces noise in the cabin. Acura added wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to this SUV, and the AcuraWatch driver assist system gained new features, including blind-spot monitoring, lane change assist, and front and rear automatic emergency braking.
Just enough power for the RDX
The 2024 Acura RDX doesn’t produce a lot of power, but it’s enough to give this little SUV the drive you need. Every model uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that produces 272 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. This engine mates with a 10-speed automatic transmission to provide smooth shifting during your drive. This power might not sound like much, but it’s enough to push this SUV to 60 mph in 6.4 seconds, which is fast enough for most of your driving needs. The fuel mileage reaches 21 city/26 hwy mpg, which isn’t bad at all for an AWD SUV.
Is there enough room inside this Acura SUV?
The RDX competes with the Genesis GV70 and Lexus NX, which means this Acura needs to be an excellent choice to be the one you want to drive. In terms of legroom for front and rear passengers, the Acura has more than both the GV70 and NX, giving passengers 42 inches in the front seats and 38 inches in the rear. In terms of cargo space, with the rear seats up, the Acura SUV boasts 29.5 cubic feet, which is more than the other two. When the rear seats are folded, the RDX has 58.2 cubic feet of cargo space, which is less than the 62.7 cubes found in the GV70 but more than the 46.9 cubes of the NX.
Why is the infotainment system a sore spot?
All models of the 2024 Acura RDX use a 10.2-inch infotainment screen. This screen is already a bit small for the current model year. Unfortunately, Acura is a few years behind, and this system doesn’t even have a touchscreen. Instead, controlling the infotainment is done via the touchpad on the center console.
Other than this control, the system is pretty good, providing wireless connectivity via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. You’ll also find a wireless charging pad at all trims, making it easier to leave your charging cord at home. The gauge cluster is a 7.0-inch digital display that provides the desired information. Higher trims include a head-up display, which makes it easier to keep your eyes on the road.
The base sound system is a nine-speaker unit with 12 and 16-speaker ELS Studio premium systems offered as upgrades. Another tech item found at higher trims is a 360-degree camera system, which offers a full view around the SUV.
Can the base RDX be the right model for you?
Now that Acura has added SH-AWD to every trim, the base model of the 2024 Acura RDX could be the right choice for you. This trim gives you a generous package of comfort and convenience items, including:
- Adaptive cruise control
- Heated front seats
- Panoramic moonroof
- Dual-zone climate controls
These items are often found on higher trims but are part of the base model of the RDX.
The RDX is a nimble and sporty small SUV with desired athleticism, enough acceleration for daily driving fun, and the qualities that make it a good choice for a small and growing family or anyone who wants a good SUV with excellent versatility.
Will you drive the 2024 Acura RDX? It might only take one test drive for you to answer this question.
