2024 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe: Off-Road Powerhouse Redefined

The 2024 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon sits at the top of the trim range. You can get it with the 4xe plug-in hybrid powertrain, which makes it more interesting.

The Wrangler Rubicon 4xe brings the benefits of a plug-in hybrid powertrain to the off-road world. Although a hybrid, this version of the Wrangler is still a hardcore off-road monster, capable of tackling some of the toughest terrain and taking you anywhere you want to go on the trails.

Let’s review some cool features of the 2024 Jeep Wrangler in its 4xe package.

Check out the new grille

Not much is actually new for this Wrangler. The JL model has been around since 2018, but for 2024, the grille is shorter and features a blacked-out look. This gives the front a meaner style while sticking with the seven-slot classic appearance we admire. Jeep had to rework some of the intakes and openings to ensure this Wrangler would bring enough air into the engine bay. This reworked grille is subtle but an important feature of the Rubicon 4xe.

Get a Warn winch from the factory

This version of the Wrangler can be ordered with a Warn winch that’s made to fit perfectly in the front bumper. This winch is rated at nearly 8,000 pounds, which is more than enough to pull this Jeep out of a troublesome situation or help it get through some deep mud. This winch and bumper combination looks great and gives the front of the Wrangler Rubicon 4xe a real off-road feeling.

The antenna is gone

The 2024 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe doesn’t have a visible antenna sticking up out of the front side of the vehicle any longer. This feature is now integrated into the windshield, which puts it out of harm’s way. This integration ensures you won’t need to replace the antenna after every trip into the wilderness, giving you a little peace of mind. Integrating the antenna doesn’t remove the ability to fold the windshield down.

A big screen for the Wrangler

The Wrangler 4xe lineup features a new 12.3-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system. This screen is a big addition to the 2024 models, giving the interior of this old-school off-road SUV a modern feeling when out on the trails. The Uconnect 5 system gives you fast response times and large, colorful icons to make it easy to see and use this infotainment system.

The powertrain makes a huge difference

All 4xe models of the Wrangler use the same powertrain. This system gives you a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and two electric motors. The Wrangler 4xe models are the best-selling plug-in hybrid vehicles in North America. The PHEV powertrain is no slouch, producing 370 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, making this Wrangler powerful and impressive. In addition, the all-electric driving range is about 21 miles with this powertrain.

The tow rating is a little paltry

The 2024 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe isn’t a towing champion. Don’t expect to take a large trailer into the wilderness with this Jeep SUV. Still, it can pull up to 3,500 pounds, which is enough for a small fishing boat, a couple of jet skis, or a trailer filled with camping gear. That might be more than enough for your adventures into the wilderness with this hybrid SUV.

Blue 4xe accents everywhere

The light blue accents that tell you this Jeep is a PHEV can be found all over this Jeep. Most prominently, you’ll see the electric blue on the front recovery fans, around the black hood decal, and on the side decals of this Jeep. As you look closer, you’ll see this detail on the Trail Rated badge and the wheel center caps. It’s impossible to forget this Jeep is a PHEV model.

New off-road apps for trail riding

The infotainment system in the Rubicon 4xe has GPS trail logs to help map the trails and show you where the paths are so you can stay out of trouble on the trails. You can also record your trail experiences and information and have it connected to your system. There’s also an adventure guide to help you get the most out of your time at specific trails.

The roof can open with the push of a button

It’s an option on the 2024 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe, but it’s a pretty cool option. The retractable roof folds back, similar to how the roof of a Fiat convertible, giving you the open-air feeling you want in the cabin when you’re cruising. This roof can be opened at up to 50 mph, which is pretty quick.
